Swansea gardens take a lot from the weather. Sea air and wind off the bay dry out lawns, scatter leaves and leave grass thin, while hillside suburbs bring slopes and run-off. Artificial grass keeps a garden green without mowing, but in an exposed spot the way it is laid matters. We build a firm, drained base and fix the turf down securely.
First we look at the garden with you, noting exposure, levels, drainage and how the space is used. Then we explain, in ordinary words, how we would prepare and finish it so there are no surprises on the day.

Close to the coast, wind is a regular visitor, and it can lift loose turf, blow debris across the lawn and dry the soil. Real grass in an exposed garden often looks stressed by summer. A fitted artificial lawn does not depend on the soil in the same way, provided the edges are fixed firmly and the base underneath is solid. That is why fixing matters.
Swansea also climbs, and many hillside suburbs have sloping gardens where water runs downhill and mowing is awkward. We cut and level the ground where needed, so the turf sits on a flat, supported base. Parks and mature trees in the area mean leaf fall in some gardens, which is easy to sweep away. We will advise on what suits your plot.

The old lawn is lifted and the soil dug out to depth. A sub-base follows, compacted in layers, then a weed membrane and a thin levelling layer which is compacted again. We pay close attention to the edges, because that is where wind gets in. Edging is set firmly so the turf has something solid to be fixed to. Each layer is checked before the next.
Then the turf is cut to your Swansea garden, laid with the pile one way and joined neatly, with the seams secured. We brush the fibres up and check that water can pass through and away. A little extra care with fixing is what lets the lawn cope with stormy days. We clear the site and take the waste away when the job is finished.
Sea air can leave a fine film of salt and grit, so an occasional rinse and brush keeps the surface fresh. Sweep off leaves and debris after blustery weather. We also cover Sketty, Mumbles, Morriston and Gowerton, so wherever you are around Swansea, get in touch and we will arrange a visit to see your garden. Just ask.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Not if it is fitted properly. We secure the perimeter into firm edging and fix the seams, so the wind has no loose edge to catch. We look at how exposed your garden is before deciding how much extra fixing is sensible.
Sea air does not affect a fitted lawn the way it harms plants. A light film of salt or grit can build up, so rinsing with water and brushing now and then keeps it clean. It needs far less than a stressed real lawn.
Yes, where the slope can be cut or built into a stable area. We form the levels, add a compacted free draining base and fix the edges. On very steep ground we may advise terracing or planting instead.
