Ivy copes with sea air better than many garden plants, which is why it shows up on so many Swansea walls, fences, sheds and trees. We cut it back, remove it from the surface beneath and clear the waste, so your garden or building is no longer disappearing under leaves.
Swansea stretches from the bay up into hillside suburbs, with parks, older roads and plenty of mature planting. We also cover Sketty, Mumbles, Morriston, Clydach and Gowerton, so wherever you are on the map, tell us and we will arrange a time to look.

Gardens near Swansea Bay get wind and salty air, and a thick mat of ivy on a fence acts like a sail in a gale. That extra load strains posts and panels, and it hides rot that you would otherwise notice. Removing the ivy lets you see what condition the fence is really in, and whether the posts still have the grip they need.
Exposed walls and sheds can suffer in a similar way. Moisture is held against the surface for longer under ivy, and a damp wall in a coastal climate is not a happy one. We cut the stems at the base and take the growth off in manageable sections, letting it loosen first where we can so that render and pointing stay put.

Swansea's hillside suburbs bring sloping plots, tall boundary walls and long back gardens. Ivy climbs the walls and then the trees behind them. We cut stems at the base of garden trees, which separates the growth from the ground, and then remove the lower ivy we can reach from the ground. Gutters and roof edges beside a wall are looked over while we are there.
On some mature trees, ivy runs very high and clearing it properly may need tree work rather than a ground clearance. We will tell you which is which before you commit to anything, so you are never paying for the wrong job. Birds also nest in dense ivy, so we always check before cutting, and we step back from any section that has a nest, returning once it is empty.
On brick, stone and render, root marks can stay behind after the ivy is gone, and wind-driven rain can make them more noticeable. Fading can take a while, so a wall may look patchy at first. We will tell you what to expect before we start in Swansea, and we clear the main growth and take it away from your property, leaving paths and borders swept.

Ivy comes off brickwork most cleanly when it is cut at the base and left to die back first, rather than ripped away while still alive.

There is no single perfect month for every tree, but winter suits many species, and this guide shows how timing, nesting birds and weather affect the choice.
Read the guide →Ivy is tough and copes well with wind and salt. If roots or missed stems remain, it can return. Cutting at the base and checking regularly keeps regrowth manageable, though we cannot promise it will not return, so it is worth a look along the wall each spring.
It adds weight and catches the wind, which can strain panels and posts, and it can keep the timber damp. We remove the growth carefully and let you know if the fence has weakened. It is worth knowing before the next stormy winter.
We will be careful, and may advise leaving parts alone if pulling would bring bits down. We cut the stems at the base first and decide the rest as we see the wall. The condition of the wall comes first.
