Gardens in Abertillery rarely sit on flat ground. The Ebbw Fach valley sides are steep and wooded, the terraced streets run along the slope, and many back gardens are small, with trees growing right up against walls and boundaries. That makes tree work a matter of careful planning, and we handle removals, reductions and deadwood here with that in mind.
If a tree is leaning, shedding limbs or simply taking all the light from your house, we can come and look at it. We also work in Brynithel, Cwmtillery, Blaina and Six Bells, so most of the upper and lower valley is within reach of our team.

On a sloping garden, a falling branch does not stop where it lands, and a felled trunk can roll. We use sectional dismantling, which means taking a tree down in small pieces that are roped and lowered under control. In a small Abertillery back garden this is usually the only safe way, because there is no space to drop a tree whole without hitting a roof, a shed or the neighbours' fence.
Steps, retaining walls and shared lanes behind the terraces can make getting equipment to the tree the hardest part of the job. We look at that on the first visit and say how timber will be moved out. Sometimes that means carrying everything by hand to a vehicle some distance away, and we would rather tell you so at the start than surprise you later.

The slopes above Abertillery are thick with trees, and some of them lean over gardens and paths. Wind funnels along the valley, and wet ground on a hillside can loosen roots, so a tree that looked stable for years may start to move. We can inspect it, point out cracks, dead wood or lifting soil, and advise whether it needs reducing, supporting or taking out.
Before anything is cut we check whether a tree is protected, by asking the local council about Tree Preservation Orders and conservation area status. We also look for nesting birds, which use valley woodland heavily through spring and summer. If a nest is active we explain the options, and in many cases the sensible choice is to wait and book the work for later in the year.
Storms in the hills can bring limbs or whole trees down onto Abertillery gardens, sheds and lanes. Where a fallen or hanging tree is a danger to people or property, we treat it as an emergency call-out and make the situation safe first, then plan any larger work properly. When a job is finished, we take away the timber and green waste and tidy the area so you are not left with a pile to deal with.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

Most trees are perfectly safe, but certain signs suggest a tree is weakened, and knowing what to look for helps you act before something falls.

Stay calm, keep clear of the tree and any cables, and call for help, because a fallen tree can still be unstable and dangerous long after the wind drops.
Read the guide →Usually, yes. We climb the tree and take it down in sections, lowering each piece on ropes so nothing falls onto roofs, fences or neighbours' land. We check the access and surroundings first, and we will say honestly if a particular tree needs extra planning because of how close it stands to buildings.
Not always, but it is worth having checked. A lean that has been there for years is different from one that has recently changed. Look for cracked ground, lifting roots or dead branches. We can inspect it and advise whether it should be reduced, monitored or removed.
Yes. Timber, branches and green waste are taken away and the site is left tidy. If you want logs for a stove, tell us beforehand and we can set them aside. We will agree what happens to everything at the first visit, so there are no surprises on the day.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
