Caerphilly is a valley town with its castle at the centre and the mountain rising to one side. Around it are terraced streets, newer estates and large gardens that climb the hillsides, many of them backed by woodland. Trees here grow on slopes, and that shapes how we remove or reduce them. We carry out tree surgery in all those settings.
Typical jobs include sectional felling, reducing a crown that has grown too heavy, taking out dead wood, and dealing with trees brought down by weather. We also cover Bedwas, Machen, Senghenydd, Llanbradach and Nelson, so the wider Caerphilly area is covered as well as the town itself.

Many Caerphilly gardens are cut into the hillside, with terraces, steps and retaining walls. A tree growing at the top of a bank can threaten whatever is below, and one at the bottom may have roots pushing against a wall. When we plan a job, we think about where each piece will go and how it will be lowered, using ropes so nothing tumbles down the slope.
Moving timber out is often harder than cutting it. Steep paths and tight turns may mean carrying logs by hand to a vehicle, and chippings can be spread on site or taken away. We discuss this at the first visit and tell you what is practical, because it affects how the whole job is arranged, not just the cutting itself. Anything left hanging in the crown is taken out, not left for later.

Some parts of Caerphilly are within conservation areas, and woodland on the hillsides can carry Tree Preservation Orders, so it is important to find out before cutting. We ask the local council on your behalf, and we will not take a protected tree down without the right permission. If notice to the council is required, we explain the process and what it means for timing.
Wooded slopes are also homes for birds and sometimes bats, and trees in larger Caerphilly gardens often hold old nests or cavities. We look for signs before climbing. If we find an active nest, we leave it alone and talk through the options with you, which sometimes means waiting for a few weeks before work can go ahead. This is also why spring bookings can need more flexibility.
Caerphilly Mountain catches wind and heavy rain, and waterlogged hillside soil can loosen roots, so storm damage here is not unusual. If a tree has fallen across a road, drive or garden, or is hanging over a house, we treat it as an emergency call-out and make it safe first. After the work, we clear away timber and green waste and leave the garden in a tidy state.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

Most trees are perfectly safe, but certain signs suggest a tree is weakened, and knowing what to look for helps you act before something falls.

Stay calm, keep clear of the tree and any cables, and call for help, because a fallen tree can still be unstable and dangerous long after the wind drops.
Read the guide →Yes, in most cases. We climb and dismantle it in controlled sections and lower each piece by rope so it does not roll down the slope. We would look at the bank and the ground below first, and tell you plainly if something extra needs arranging.
It might. Woodland and individual trees can be covered by Tree Preservation Orders, and the land may not even be yours. We check with the local council and look at who owns the trees before agreeing any work, so you can be sure of the position.
Often. A reduction shortens the heavier branches so the crown is lighter and smaller, while the tree stays. Not every species or condition suits it, so we look at the tree first and tell you honestly whether reduction is realistic.
