Brecon is a cathedral town where the River Usk meets the canal, set in the middle of Bannau Brycheiniog. Many homes here have large gardens, stone walls and mature trees, and beyond the edge of town the land turns to farmland and field boundaries. We carry out tree surgery for both, from a single garden tree to older trees on the boundary of a field.
Our work includes sectional felling, crown reductions, removing dead or storm-damaged limbs, and clearing fallen trees. We also cover Talybont-on-Usk, Libanus, Sennybridge and Llanfrynach, so country properties outside Brecon itself are welcome as well as those in the town.

Brecon's larger gardens often hold trees that have been growing for generations, close to stone houses, outbuildings and old boundary walls. Roots and heavy limbs near stonework need careful handling. Where we can, we reduce a tree rather than remove it, shortening heavy branches so that the tree stays but the load over a roof or wall is eased. That way the character of the garden stays intact.
If a tree has to come down, we do it in controlled sections, using ropes to lower each piece so that walls, glass and planting below are not hit. Rural gardens often give us more room than a town terrace, which can mean a simpler job, but we still check power lines, neighbouring land and the ground underneath before we climb. If a tree stands on a boundary, we will want to know who owns it before any cutting starts.

Brecon lies within a national park, and the town itself has conservation areas, so it is more likely than elsewhere that a tree has some form of protection. We ask the local council about Tree Preservation Orders and notice requirements before cutting anything, and we will explain the position to you in plain terms. Cutting a protected tree without permission can lead to serious trouble, so we do not guess.
Field boundaries and hedgerow trees add another layer. Old oaks, ash and hawthorn around Brecon shelter birds and sometimes bats, so we look for nests and roosts first. Ash in particular can be affected by disease, and we can inspect trees for dead crowns or brittle limbs and tell you what we find, without pushing for work that is not needed. Where work is not needed, we say so rather than cutting for the sake of it.
Exposed ground around Brecon takes the full force of autumn and winter storms, and fallen trees across drives, lanes or fences are a regular result. Where a tree threatens a building or blocks access, we treat it as an emergency call-out and make it safe first. After any job, we remove the timber and green waste and leave your Brecon garden tidy, with logs set aside if you ask.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Brecon.
We work across South Wales. Pick your town to see how tree surgery works locally.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

Most trees are perfectly safe, but certain signs suggest a tree is weakened, and knowing what to look for helps you act before something falls.

Stay calm, keep clear of the tree and any cables, and call for help, because a fallen tree can still be unstable and dangerous long after the wind drops.
Read the guide →The national park status does not protect every tree by itself, but conservation areas and individual Tree Preservation Orders are more common here. We check with the local council before cutting and tell you what is needed, so you do not break the rules by accident.
Yes. We take on rural jobs around Brecon, including hedgerow and boundary trees. We would look at access across the land, whether a neighbour owns part of the tree, and whether nesting birds are present before agreeing how to go about it.
A tree with thin or dead branches at the crown, or fungal growth at the base, deserves a proper look. We can inspect it and explain what we see. Sometimes removing dead wood is enough; other times the tree is unsafe and should come down in sections.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
