Ebbw Vale grew up around its steelworks, and the terraced streets still climb the valley sides in long rows. Gardens on those slopes are often small, some sit at the top of a hill with nothing to break the wind, and wooded ground rises behind. Trees in such places need care to work on, and we provide tree surgery across the town.
Our work covers sectional felling, crown reductions, deadwood removal and clearing storm-damaged trees. We also work in Beaufort, Cwm, Brynmawr and Tredegar, so homes elsewhere in the upper valleys can be reached as well as those in Ebbw Vale itself.

Gardens at the top of Ebbw Vale are exposed. Wind that rises over the ridge hits trees hard, and a tall tree with a heavy crown may rock, split or lose branches in a way that a sheltered tree would not. We can look for weak forks, cracks and dead wood, and where the crown is catching too much wind a careful reduction can bring the weight down.
If a tree has to come out, we do it in sections, so we never rely on dropping it in one piece next to a house or a neighbour's wall. Hilltop plots are often tight, and the land may fall away on one side, so we plan where each piece will land and how it will be lowered before anyone leaves the ground.

Many terraced streets in Ebbw Vale have steps, back lanes and small yards rather than driveways. This can make the practical side of tree work harder than the cutting itself. We look at the route from the tree to the road on the first visit and say honestly how logs and branches will be carried out and where our chipper can be placed.
Before cutting we check whether a tree is protected, by asking the local council about Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas. We also look out for nesting birds, because woodland on the slopes above Ebbw Vale gives them plenty of cover. If a nest is in use, we leave it alone and talk with you about when it is sensible to come back and finish the job.
Heavy rain and strong winds on the valley sides can bring limbs or whole trees down in Ebbw Vale, sometimes across a back lane, a roof or a car. If a tree is threatening a property or blocking access, we treat it as an emergency call-out and make the area safe first. Afterwards we take away the timber and green waste and leave your garden tidy.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Ebbw Vale.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

Most trees are perfectly safe, but certain signs suggest a tree is weakened, and knowing what to look for helps you act before something falls.

Stay calm, keep clear of the tree and any cables, and call for help, because a fallen tree can still be unstable and dangerous long after the wind drops.
Read the guide →Usually yes. We climb and dismantle the tree in short sections, lowering each piece on a rope so it does not land on walls or roofs. Small yards need more planning, so we look at the space, the route out and the neighbours before we agree how to proceed.
Open ground gives wind a clear run at the crown, and a heavy top can twist or split a trunk or tear off limbs. Reducing the crown can lessen that load. We can inspect the tree and tell you whether it needs work or is sound.
Yes. We make the area safe, cut the tree into manageable pieces and clear it. A fallen tree can be under tension, so it should not be cut by hand without experience. If it is on a building, tell us straight away.
