Gardens in Ebbw Vale tend to follow the shape of the valley. Terraced streets climb the hillsides, and many lawns sit on slopes or on exposed ground where wind comes straight across. Mowing those can be awkward and the grass often looks tired by midsummer. Artificial grass can give you a level, green surface, provided the ground underneath is dealt with properly.
We always look at the plot before suggesting anything. Some gardens need careful levelling, some need drainage thought through, and some are better left partly as they are. You will get a straight answer on what will work in your garden.

On a hilltop garden the wind dries and thins the grass, and on a lower terrace it can sit wet through winter. A sloping lawn is also hard to cut safely. Artificial grass removes the mowing, but only if it is laid on ground that has been cut and built up so the surface is flat enough to use and the water has somewhere to go.
For Ebbw Vale gardens we usually plan the levels first. That may mean cutting into the slope, building up a firm area, or forming a step or retaining edge. Where a slope is too steep for turf to sit safely, we will tell you rather than lay something that does not suit the garden. Honest advice at the start saves wasted effort.

Once the old lawn is cleared, we dig out to depth and lay the sub-base in layers, compacting each one. A weed membrane goes down and then a thin levelling layer. On uneven ground this stage takes the most time, and it is also what decides whether the finished lawn looks right. In Ebbw Vale the fall of the ground matters as much as the depth we dig.
The turf is then cut, joined and fixed along firm edging. Wind is a real consideration here, so we secure the edges thoroughly instead of just tucking them in. Last, we brush up the pile and leave the garden tidy, with the waste taken away, so you can walk straight onto it. Anything left over from the job is cleared away. You can use it straight away.
Exposed gardens collect leaves, grit and litter on the breeze, so a brush or blower now and then keeps things clean. Otherwise there is little to do. We also work in Beaufort, Cwm, Brynmawr and Tredegar, so if you live near Ebbw Vale, ask us to take a look at your garden and talk through the options. Take your time deciding.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →It can, if the edges are fixed well. We secure the turf firmly along the perimeter and on the seams, so the wind has nothing to lift. Real lawns tend to suffer more from exposure than a properly fitted artificial one.
Often yes, after the ground is cut or built up to a stable, usable level. Very steep banks may not suit turf at all, and we will say so. A site visit lets us judge the angle and suggest a sensible way forward.
A compacted sub-base with a gentle fall lets rain drain through and away. We check how water moves across your garden before we start, particularly on terraces where run-off from above can arrive, and plan the levels to suit.
