Pontypridd grew where two rivers meet, and its streets climb the hillsides on both sides. Many back gardens slope, face the wrong way for sun or sit under the trees on the wooded slopes above. That makes a lawn hard work. Artificial grass gives you a firm green surface, and we take care to lay it on ground that has been shaped and drained properly.
We begin with a visit to see the slope, the access and the way water moves through the garden. Then we explain what the base will involve, how the edges will be finished and what you can expect at the end.

In a hillside terrace the garden might drop away from the back door or climb steeply behind it. Neither suits a mower. A sloping lawn also holds water at its lowest point, so it stays soft long after rain. In Pontypridd, artificial grass suits the plot once we cut or build the ground into a flatter, supported shape first, so it is not simply laid over a slope.
Trees on the wooded slopes keep some gardens in shade for much of the day, and moss follows. Swapping the worst patch for artificial turf can make the garden usable again. Sometimes we also tidy a hedge or branch overhead at the same visit so light and leaf fall are easier to manage afterwards. That keeps the finished garden easy to look after.

We lift the old lawn and dig the ground to depth. On a slope this often means forming a level area, with a low retaining edge where the ground falls away. The sub-base is laid and compacted in layers, then covered with a weed membrane and a thin levelling layer. Each layer gets checked before the next goes on, so it stays firm.
Turf is cut to the shape of your Pontypridd garden and laid with the pile in one direction, then joined and fixed along edging. We brush the fibres up and check that water has a clear route off the surface, because drainage matters more on a hillside than anywhere. The waste goes with us. We tidy the site fully and remove the waste before we leave.
Brush the turf occasionally, rinse off spills and sweep leaves from the slopes above. We cover Treforest, Taffs Well and Rhydyfelin as well as Pontypridd, so if your home is nearby, get in touch and we will arrange a time to look at your garden and give you plain advice. There is no pressure to decide on the day.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Yes, where the slope can be cut or built into a stable, reasonably level area. Steeper sections may be better terraced or planted. We check the ground in person so you are not sold something that will not suit it.
We shape the levels so water leaves the surface and the garden, and we use a compacted, free draining sub-base. We also look for where water arrives from above, so run-off from a neighbouring terrace does not collect in your new lawn.
Not really. Damp air can leave algae on any outdoor surface, so brushing and a rinse now and then keep it clean. Good drainage under the turf matters more than anything else, and that is where we spend our effort.
