Tonypandy's terraced streets run steeply up the sides of the Rhondda Fawr, and the back gardens follow. A lawn that slopes sharply, sits beneath woodland shade or stays wet most of the winter is a chore to cut and rarely looks smart. Artificial grass offers a flat, green surface, and we make sure the ground beneath is shaped and drained for it.
We visit first, look at the gradient and the access, and talk about what you want from the garden. Then we set out the work clearly, including how we would deal with the slope and where the water will go.

Many Tonypandy gardens rise from the back door in a series of steps or a single steep bank. Cutting grass on that kind of ground is awkward, and the lawn is usually thin where the soil is shallow or shaded. Turning part of it into a levelled artificial area gives you somewhere to sit or for children to play. It also saves the effort of climbing a slope with a mower.
Woodland on the valley sides drops leaves, keeps corners damp and encourages moss. Artificial turf copes with all of that, although it still wants sweeping. Where a bank is too steep for turf, we will say so honestly, and we can suggest keeping it planted while the flat section becomes your lawn. Each garden gets its own advice. That way you keep the planting you like.

After lifting the old turf, we cut into the slope or build up a platform, depending on the garden, and form a retaining edge where needed. The sub-base is laid and compacted in layers, followed by a weed membrane and a fine levelling layer, which we compact until firm. Each layer is checked with a level before the next goes on, and the gradient is set so rain runs away.
The turf is cut to your Tonypandy garden, laid with all the pile facing the same way and joined carefully. We fix it along edging and brush it upright. Access up narrow terraced rows can be limited, so we plan how to carry materials in and waste out, and we keep the work tidy. Waste is cleared before we leave, so the garden is ready to use.
There is no mowing, only a brush, a rinse for spills and a sweep of leaves. We cover Trealaw, Penygraig, Llwynypia and Porth as well as Tonypandy, so if you are close, get in touch and we will visit, look at the slope and tell you plainly what would work. We are happy to answer questions first. Get in touch whenever suits.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

We carry them through the house or by whichever route you agree, protecting floors as we go. Soil and waste leave the same way. We plan this on the first visit so the day runs smoothly and the house stays clean.
No, as long as the base is built properly. A compacted, free draining sub-base lets water pass through, and we shape the levels so it runs away from the house. We check how water moves on your slope before starting.
