Newport has a mixed housing stock, from Victorian terraces with small yards to large suburban estates with generous lawns. Both can benefit from artificial grass. In a tight yard it replaces a patch that never quite recovers from foot traffic, and on an estate it removes a long mow every week. We prepare the ground properly so the finished surface stays flat and neat.
Our first step is a look at the garden and a chat about how you use it. We then set out the work in plain terms, including levels, drainage, edging and what will happen to the old turf and soil.

A terraced yard in Newport is often only a few metres across, shaded by walls and neighbouring fences. Real grass struggles there, and a mower is more trouble than it is worth. Artificial turf makes the small space tidy and usable, and it can be cut precisely around drains, steps and planters so nothing looks squeezed in. Walls hold heat and shade in equal measure, so it helps to see the yard first.
On the larger suburban estates, lawns are wider and often face mature street trees or tall boundary hedges. Here we usually replace the worn or shaded sections first and keep real grass where it still thrives. A clean edge between the two gives a result that looks deliberate and keeps upkeep sensible for years. We will talk through which parts make most sense.

The old surface is lifted, the soil excavated and a sub-base laid and compacted in layers. A weed membrane is added, then a thin levelling layer, which we compact again until it is flat. This is where most of the effort goes, because shortcuts here show up later as dips and puddles. Each layer is checked with a level before the next one goes on top.
We then cut the turf to fit your Newport garden, lay it with the pile facing one way and join the pieces carefully. The perimeter is fixed along firm edging, and the fibres are brushed upright. We also check drainage as we go, so rain can pass through rather than lie on the surface. Waste and spare soil are taken away when we finish, so the garden is left tidy.
Once it is down, the work is light: sweep leaves, brush now and then, and rinse spills. Street trees can drop plenty in autumn, so keep an eye out. We also cover Caerleon, Rogerstone and Maindee, so if you are anywhere around Newport, get in touch and we will arrange a time to view the garden. We are happy to answer questions first.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Yes, and small yards often suit it well. We measure carefully, deal with drains and awkward corners, and plan joins so they are not obvious. Access is usually through the house, so we protect floors and keep the work tidy.
Yes, because we do not lay turf over the existing surface. We clear the lawn, level the ground and compact a proper base first. That removes the lumps and hollows, and the finished grass sits evenly on top.
We keep the base clear of any large roots and leave the tree itself alone unless you ask otherwise. If branches are overhanging the garden and dropping debris, we can prune them as a separate job. We will tell you what looks sensible.
