Maesteg's terraced streets and sloping back gardens make lawn care harder than it looks. Wet ground, shade from the wooded slopes above the town and awkward gradients can leave real grass patchy and tiring to mow. Artificial grass gives a neat, even surface that stays green, and we lay it so that it sits flat and drains well on valley ground.
Each garden is different, so we begin by looking at the slope, the access and where the water goes. Then we explain, in plain terms, how we would build the base and finish the edges before any work starts, so you know what to expect.

Many gardens in the Llynfi valley slope away from the house or rise steeply behind it, and the wooded slopes can keep corners damp and shaded. Those are the places where moss takes over a lawn and where mowing becomes a chore. An artificial surface avoids both problems, but the shape of the ground has to be sorted first, and that is where we begin.
We may cut into the slope or build up a level area on a compacted base, sometimes with a low retaining edge. That gives you a flat patch for a seat or for children to play on. Access on terraced rows can be narrow, so we agree how materials will reach the garden and how the old turf will leave it before the day we start.

The old turf comes off first, along with roots and surface soil. We then dig to depth, lay the sub-base and compact it in layers. A weed membrane and a thin levelling layer follow, and we check the surface with a level so that dips and ridges do not show through the finished grass. Getting this layer right matters more than anything laid on top of it.
Next we cut the turf to the shape of your Maesteg garden, lay the pile the same way across every piece and join the seams tidily. It is fixed along the edging, then brushed up. Drainage is built into the fall of the ground rather than added as an afterthought, so water has a clear route off the surface. The old turf and soil go with us when we finish.
A lawn like this asks very little. A stiff brush now and then lifts the pile, and sweeping off leaves keeps the surface clean, which matters most where trees stand above the garden. We cover Caerau, Nantyffyllon, Pontycymmer and Llangynwyd as well as Maesteg itself, so wherever you are in the valley, get in touch and we will arrange to see the garden.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Maesteg.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →On moderate slopes it is, once we cut or build the ground into a stable, level shape. Steeper sections may need terracing or a different treatment. We look at the garden first and tell you plainly what is realistic.
Usually, yes. Terraced houses often have no side access, so we carry materials through the house or find another route. Tell us about the access when you get in touch and we will plan the delivery and the removal of waste around it.
The membrane and compacted base discourage growth from below, and the surface does not hold moisture like soil. Shaded gardens can still collect debris and a little moss on top, so brushing and clearing leaves now and then keeps the turf looking fresh.
