Gardens in Chepstow rarely sit flat. With the Wye close by and wooded ground rising behind many of the older houses, lawns here often lose out to shade, moss and slopes that are awkward to mow. Artificial grass gives you a green surface that does not depend on sunlight, and we lay it on a base prepared to suit the ground you actually have.
We start by looking at the levels, the drainage and how you use the space. From there we can tell you honestly whether artificial grass will work, which parts of the garden suit it, and what preparation your plot needs before any turf is rolled out.

Properties around Chepstow often sit under mature trees, and the edge of the Wye Valley brings heavy canopy and damp air. Real grass in that kind of shade thins out, then moss moves in. A lawn that is wet for much of the winter is also hard to walk on. Artificial grass stays even and clean underfoot whatever the light. Moving shade through the day makes the problem patchy rather than total.
Sloping plots need thought. We look at how the ground falls, then cut and level it so the base is stable and water leaves the surface rather than pooling at the bottom. Where a bank is too steep for turf to sit well, we will say so, and suggest keeping that part planted or terraced instead. Honest advice now saves disappointment later.

We take off the old turf and any roots, then excavate to the depth needed for the sub-base. That base is compacted in stages, topped with a weed membrane and then a fine levelling layer that is compacted again. Skipping these steps is what leads to dips and wrinkles later, so we do not rush them. Each layer is checked with a level before the next goes on.
The turf is then cut around your borders, steps and paving, joined with the pile facing the same way and fixed along firm edging. Finally we brush the fibres upright. Because Chepstow gardens can be tight to reach, we talk through access with you first, including how materials will get to the back of the house. We tidy up and take the waste away afterwards.
Trees overhead mean leaves, seeds and the occasional twig on the grass, so a quick sweep or brush keeps it looking fresh. We also tidy and prune trees, which can help if canopy is blocking too much light or dropping heavy debris. We cover Tutshill, Mathern and Caerwent as well as Chepstow, so ask if you are nearby.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →On gentle slopes, yes, once the ground is cut and levelled and the base is compacted so it cannot slip. On very steep banks the turf can be hard to fix securely, so we assess each garden in person and tell you what is sensible.
A weed membrane and a clean, compacted base keep most weeds down, but nothing is completely proof against windblown seed or moss settling on debris. Brushing and clearing leaves from time to time keeps the surface clean, especially in shady, damp spots.
No, shade does not affect it the way it affects a real lawn. You may get more leaf fall to sweep off. If the tree itself needs attention, we can prune it at the same visit so the garden is sorted in one go.
