Cardiff gardens come in every shape, from the small yards of the terraced streets to the generous lawns of the leafy suburbs. Wherever yours is, artificial grass can give it a green, even surface through winter and summer alike, without the mower. Leafy suburbs and compact terraces alike are within our usual area.
We handle the preparation and the laying ourselves. The old turf comes out, a firm drained base goes in, the new lawn is fixed and brushed, and we clear away all the waste so there is nothing left for you to deal with.
Mature street trees and big garden trees are part of what makes parts of Cardiff so green, but they also cast shade and drop leaves. Natural grass underneath often goes thin and mossy. Artificial turf stays even in shade, and a quick brush deals with the leaf fall. The result is a lawn that looks cared for all year, which is a real advantage in a city garden that sees plenty of use.
Small terrace yards benefit just as much. A compact lawn that is always green gives a neat view from the kitchen window and a clean surface to sit on. We template awkward shapes carefully so the turf fits around paving, planters and bin areas without gaps. The same goes for shaded back gardens behind tall Victorian houses, where sun rarely reaches the ground.
We start by lifting the existing lawn and roots and digging out to firm ground. A sub-base goes in and is compacted in layers, then levelled with a gentle fall so rain drains through. On top goes a weed membrane, followed by the turf, cut and joined with care. Large Victorian and Edwardian houses often have long gardens, so we plan access and spoil removal before we start.
Edges are fixed firmly along walls, paths and borders, and the pile is brushed upright to finish. If your Cardiff house stands in a conservation area, or you have trees with protected status, it is worth checking what rules apply before any digging begins. Spoil, old turf and offcuts are loaded up and taken away when we finish, leaving the garden clean.
Colour, pile height and softness all vary, and the right choice depends on how the garden is used. We can bring samples to look at against your house and planting. We also cover Llandaff, Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, Penylan, St Mellons and Pontprennau, so most of Cardiff and the suburbs around it are within easy reach. Normally not for a private garden, but conservation areas and listed properties can have extra rules. If your home might be affected, check with the council first. We are glad to explain what the work involves. Checking first is simple.
Brush or blow off leaves regularly and rinse away sap or dirt when needed. Keeping debris from building up stops weeds taking root in it. A neglected lawn under trees will look worse than a cared-for one. A tidy lawn takes little effort.
