Merthyr Tydfil sits high, with the Brecon Beacons rising to the north, and the weather shows in its gardens. Rain, wind and shade from big boundary trees leave many lawns soft, patchy and hard to keep tidy. Artificial grass is a practical fix for part or all of a garden, and we lay it on a base built to cope with wet, sloping ground.
Before quoting any work we visit, look at the levels and drainage, and talk about how you use the garden. That way the plan fits the plot, whether it is a terraced back yard or a larger hillside lawn.

Terraces and hillside plots across Merthyr often slope sharply, and rain tends to run downhill, collecting wherever the ground levels out. A real lawn there can stay boggy for weeks. Artificial grass will not fix poor drainage by itself, so the work begins with the ground: where water arrives, where it needs to leave, and how to shape the base to carry it away.
Big boundary trees are common in the area and cast long shade across back gardens, leaving moss where grass once grew. Replacing a mossy patch with artificial turf gives a clean green surface. We can also prune the tree at the same visit if the shade or the falling debris is becoming too much. Either way, the shade is dealt with rather than ignored.

We lift the old lawn, dig out to the depth required and build a sub-base in compacted layers so water passes through it rather than sitting on top. A weed membrane goes over that, followed by a thin levelling layer. On a slope we may add a small retaining edge to hold everything steady. Each layer is levelled before the next is added so nothing settles unevenly.
The turf is then cut to suit your Merthyr Tydfil garden, laid with the pile all one way and joined carefully. We fix the perimeter into firm edging, secure the seams and brush the fibres upright. If a corner of the garden stays wet, we point it out and adapt the drainage before covering it. Leftover soil and old turf are cleared away at the end.
Damp air means algae can appear on any outdoor surface, so brushing and an occasional rinse help keep the turf fresh. Clear leaves before they rot down. We also cover Dowlais, Treharris, Troedyrhiw and Pontsticill, so if you are around Merthyr Tydfil, ask for a visit and we will talk through what your garden needs. We are happy to answer questions beforehand.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

Yes. We remove the moss and the topsoil under it, then build a proper base, so you are not covering a problem. If the moss comes from heavy shade or poor drainage, we will suggest dealing with that cause as well.
Often it is. A small yard gets heavy use and rarely suits a mower, so a neat artificial surface can make it far easier to look after. We measure carefully so the turf fits the corners and joins sit out of sight.
