Lawns on the hillsides around Caerphilly face a lot: runoff from higher ground, shade from wooded slopes and wear from daily use. Artificial grass solves much of this. It stays green, stays firm and needs no mowing, which counts for something on a slope. Gardens up the hill are just as welcome as those on the flat.
We take out the old turf, build a drained and compacted base, and lay the new lawn with clean, secure edges. Before we leave, the pile is brushed up and every scrap of waste is loaded onto our vehicle.

Caerphilly has a bit of everything: valley terraces, newer estates and large gardens climbing the mountain side. A steep lawn is hard to mow safely, and artificial grass removes that chore. Where the ground is uneven, we reshape it so the turf lies flat and does not feel spongy. For anyone who has struggled with a mower on a hillside, that alone is a good reason to switch, as well as the saving in time.
On larger plots we often lay grass only where it will be used, such as outside the back door or across a play area, and keep planted borders around it. That gives the garden structure and keeps the cost of materials and the amount of work in proportion to what you need. It also keeps weekend work to a minimum, which suits busy households.

Water moves downhill, and on a slope it can arrive faster than it leaves. We dig out the old turf and build a compacted, free-draining sub-base, then set the surface to a fall so rain passes through the grass and away from the house and neighbours. Gardens on hillside terraces and new estates behave differently, so we take a look at each plot instead of assuming the same method will do.
A weed membrane and securely fixed edges follow, keeping the turf in place and weeds out. Joins are made carefully and the pile is brushed into position. If your Caerphilly garden collects runoff from above, tell us, and we will plan the drainage around it before we begin laying. Tidy edges against walls and paths finish the job. That includes the line along paths and fences, where a straight, secure edge keeps the lawn looking crisp.
Wooded slopes bring shade, leaves and damp, all of which are easier to live with on artificial turf than on a natural lawn. A brush or leaf blower keeps the surface clear. We also cover Bedwas, Machen, Senghenydd and Llanbradach, and can bring samples to your Caerphilly garden to help you choose. We can bring samples so you can judge colours in daylight.

Artificial grass suits small, shady or well-used gardens that are tiresome to mow, provided it is laid on a properly prepared, well-drained base.

How long artificial grass lasts depends on the product, the base beneath it, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

They sit on top and can be brushed or blown off. If leaves are left to rot, they can feed weeds, so clear them from time to time. A lawn near woodland does need a little regular care.
A weed membrane over a compacted sub-base, levelled with a fall for drainage. That layered base is what keeps the lawn flat and well drained, and it is the part we put most time into. It all sits on a proper base.
