If ivy has crept over a wall, fence or chimney at your Chepstow home, we can cut it back and clear it away. We work on brick, stone, timber and trees, and we take care not to pull at anything that is already weak or loose underneath the growth.
Chepstow sits on the edge of the Wye Valley, where steep wooded ground and mature trees make ivy very vigorous. We also work in Tutshill, Mathern, Caerwent and Shirenewton, so tell us where the job is and we will let you know how we can help.

Older houses in Chepstow often have lime mortar, soft brick or stone that does not cope well with ivy roots. The stems push into small cracks, hold moisture against the surface and can lift loose pointing over time. Cutting the ivy back early gives you a much clearer view of what is really happening to the wall behind it. It is usually easier to deal with sooner rather than later.
With wooded slopes and large trees close to many gardens here, ivy climbs quickly and hangs over boundaries, paths and neighbouring plots. We can cut it off at the base of the trunk, and clear the lower growth from fences and walls, so the problem stops spreading further across the garden and next door. That keeps your boundaries clear and easier to maintain.

We walk the job with you first and look at what the ivy is attached to, how far it reaches and whether access is awkward on sloping ground. Then we cut the stems at the base, let the upper growth begin to die back, and remove whatever can be taken down safely without damaging the surface beneath. We tidy as we go.
Sticky roots left on masonry can take time to loosen, and we will say so plainly if your wall is likely to show marks afterwards. Before any cutting we check the growth for nesting birds, and if we find a nest we will leave that section alone and talk to you about when it would be better to return. Nothing is rushed.
Ivy is persistent, and a single missed stem can start again at your Chepstow property. We cut at the base and take out what we can reach, but it is worth checking the foot of walls, fences and trees now and then, so any new shoots can be pulled off while they are still small and easy to deal with.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Chepstow.

Ivy comes off brickwork most cleanly when it is cut at the base and left to die back first, rather than ripped away while still alive.

There is no single perfect month for every tree, but winter suits many species, and this guide shows how timing, nesting birds and weather affect the choice.
Read the guide →It depends on the wall. Sound walls often cope, but ivy can hide cracked pointing and push into gaps around windows, gutters and roof edges. If you cannot see the surface behind it, cutting it back lets you check properly.
We look at the access first, then work from the ground where we can and cut stems at the base of trees and walls. Steep ground does not stop the job, but we will talk through the practical side with you.
The growth above the cut is cut off from its roots and should die back, although it can take a while and may stay stuck on the surface. We can come back to remove it once it has dried out, if you wish.
