Chepstow gardens climb steep, wooded ground above the Wye, and bamboo that was meant to be a neat screen can quickly turn into a thicket. We cut the canes down, dig out the rhizomes and roots and take the waste away, so the problem is removed at the source.
Period houses, mature trees and sloping ground all make the work a little more involved here. We will look at your plot, explain what we think is needed, and then clear the bamboo carefully without disturbing more than necessary.

Many properties in Chepstow sit on sloping, wooded ground at the edge of the Wye Valley, with tree roots running through the soil. Bamboo rhizomes mix with them, which makes the dig slow. We cut the canes first, then work the rhizomes out gently, taking care not to undermine the slope or damage roots that hold the bank together, checking what we are cutting through as we go.
A clump on a bank can also be hiding what is under it, such as old steps, retaining stones or drains. Removing the canes lets us see these before the digging begins. If you know of anything buried, such as a pipe or cable, let us know so that we can avoid it. It is far better to know in advance than to find out with a spade.

Older houses in and around Chepstow often have stone walls and paved yards close to the garden, and running bamboo is quite capable of pushing through gaps in them. We dig out the rhizomes where they approach walls and paths, aiming to lift them without disturbing the structure more than we have to. That matters with older stonework, which cannot easily be put back as it was.
Access can be tight on steep lanes and stepped paths, so we think through how to get waste out before we start. Everything, including the canes, root mass and spoil, is taken away by us. Afterwards the ground is left clear for you to level, replant or leave as it is, whether that means new planting, turf or simply a workable slope.
If your bamboo started next door, we can clear your side, but the clump may keep sending rhizomes across unless it is dealt with at the source, so a friendly word with the neighbour is worth having early. For bamboo removal in Chepstow, we also cover Tutshill, Mathern, Caerwent and Shirenewton. Photos of the clump and the way in help us plan the visit.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Chepstow.
We work across South Wales. Pick your town to see how bamboo removal works locally.

Running bamboo spreads through underground stems called rhizomes, and stopping it means digging them out thoroughly rather than just cutting down the canes.

Spreading bamboo can lift paving, push into wall joints and block drains, so it helps to know which type you have and when to act.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Yes. We work in sections, taking care not to loosen the bank or harm tree roots that you want to keep. The first job is cutting the canes so we can see the ground, and then we dig out the rhizomes and roots by hand where we need to.
Bamboo roots do hold some soil, but we cannot judge the stability of your bank without seeing it. We dig in stages and avoid leaving large areas bare for long. If you are concerned about the slope, tell us and we will talk it through.
We take them away. Bamboo is bulky and slow to break down, so we do not leave it behind. We remove the canes, rhizomes, roots and any soil that cannot stay, and leave the area clear for whatever comes next.
