Bamboo is one of those plants that seems harmless until the canes start appearing a long way from where it was planted. We remove spreading bamboo in Tonypandy, cutting the canes down and digging out the rhizomes, so that your back garden, steps and paths are not slowly taken over from below.
Houses in the Rhondda Fawr usually have long, sloping back gardens behind terraced streets, which means careful digging and good planning. We also help customers in Trealaw, Penygraig, Llwynypia, Porth and Clydach Vale, and we carry the cut bamboo and roots away when we leave.

A terraced back garden on the valley side has little room to spare, so a bamboo clump soon dominates it. Running types send rhizomes through the soft ground along walls and steps, and canes can emerge beside the back door or in the neighbour's plot. Because the gardens are narrow, a problem on one side is often felt next door as well.
Tonypandy's sloping plots also make it hard to see how far the roots have travelled. The ground falls away, so rhizomes can run downhill and surface lower down. We look at the whole length of the garden, including the lowest corner, before we decide where to dig, rather than assuming the clump you can see is all there is. That often reveals a second patch.

Access to many Tonypandy and Rhondda gardens is through the house or along a shared passage, so we carry tools in and take waste out by hand. Canes are cut first and cleared. We then dig around the crown and follow the rhizomes along the slope, working in short sections so the soil does not slip down. This takes longer but protects your property.
The roots are lifted out piece by piece and the soil is sifted for fragments, since a small length left behind can sprout. Everything is loaded and taken away. We are happy to come back after a few weeks of growth to check for new shoots and remove them while they are still small and easy to pull, which is far less work than a second full dig.
In a terraced Tonypandy street, bamboo often crosses a boundary, so it helps to speak to the neighbours early. We can remove what is on your side and dig right to the boundary line. If you would like us to look at the other side with their permission, we will happily include it. Photos of the garden and the route in make planning easier.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Tonypandy.
We work across South Wales. Pick your town to see how bamboo removal works locally.

Running bamboo spreads through underground stems called rhizomes, and stopping it means digging them out thoroughly rather than just cutting down the canes.

Spreading bamboo can lift paving, push into wall joints and block drains, so it helps to know which type you have and when to act.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →We can clear what is on your side and dig along the boundary. To stop it coming back, the source on their side needs dealing with too, which we can do if they agree. A friendly chat first usually makes this simple.
Yes. We regularly work where everything goes through the house or a narrow shared path. Tools are carried in by hand and waste is brought out in manageable loads. Let us know about the route and any steps when you get in touch.
We backfill and rake over the ground so it is safe to walk on, though it will be loose and uneven. On a slope we take extra care that the soil stays stable. You can then turf, plant or lay a surface as you wish.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
