If bamboo has taken over a corner of your garden, or is coming up through the lawn and between paving slabs, we can clear it. We remove spreading bamboo in Pontypridd by cutting down the canes and digging out the rhizomes beneath, then taking all the material away so the ground is ready for something better.
Pontypridd gardens often climb the hillside in steps and terraces, and that shapes how we work. We also covers Treforest, Taffs Well, Trallwn, Rhydyfelin and Llantwit Fardre, so if you are nearby the same approach applies. Just ask if you are unsure whether we reach you.

Where gardens are cut into the hill, bamboo roots find the soft soil behind walls and under steps, then travel along it. A clump near the top of a plot can send shoots into the garden below, and sometimes into the next property, without any sign above ground until the canes appear. By then the roots are well entrenched and a lot of soil has to be moved.
In Pontypridd, with so many sloping gardens and wooded valley sides close by, bamboo also gets away easily because nobody is regularly digging the back of a border. It tends to come to light when a patio slab lifts or a new cane appears in a place where you would never have planted anything. Early removal is much easier than waiting. That is a sensible time to call.

In Pontypridd we cut the canes to ground level and carry them out. Then we dig around the crown and follow the rhizomes, using hand tools along walls and steps and a small machine only where the ground is flat enough to take it safely. We work in sections so the soil is never left loose on a steep bank. This keeps the work tidy and safe.
Every thick rhizome we find is lifted out, and we shake or sift the soil to catch smaller pieces. These can regrow, so it is a slow job done properly. The cuttings and roots are taken away in our vehicle, and we can return in the growing season to look for fresh shoots. Any shoots seen after that are usually just one or two.
It helps to know how many steps there are to the garden, whether there is a back lane and how close the bamboo is to the house or a drain. A few photographs of the Pontypridd plot, taken from the lowest and the highest point, are very useful. We will then suggest a plan that suits the access and the slope.

We work across South Wales. Pick your town to see how bamboo removal works locally.

Running bamboo spreads through underground stems called rhizomes, and stopping it means digging them out thoroughly rather than just cutting down the canes.

Spreading bamboo can lift paving, push into wall joints and block drains, so it helps to know which type you have and when to act.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.

There is no need. We cut the canes as part of the work, which lets us see the crown and where the roots are heading. If you have already cut it back, that is fine, and the rhizomes still have to come out.
We bundle the canes and load them with the roots and spoil. All of it goes off site with us, so there is nothing left stacked at the back of the garden. We rake the area over before we leave.
