Cwmbran was laid out as a planned town, with tidy estates, avenues and open green spaces, and bamboo is one of the plants that tends to spoil that tidiness once it escapes. We cut the canes down, dig out the rhizomes and roots and clear the waste, so a stray clump does not take over your garden.
Most gardens here have close neighbours on several sides, so a clump left alone rarely stays in one plot. We will look at how it has spread, tell you what needs to come out and clear it carefully.

Planned estates mean rows of similar gardens with fences, hedges and short boundaries between them. In Cwmbran, that makes it easy for a running bamboo to slip under a fence and appear in the next garden along. The rhizomes travel just below the surface, and a clump that began as a screen can end up on both sides of a boundary. Over a few seasons that can turn a neat edge into a wall of canes.
Dealing with it often means talking to the people next door. We clear what lies on your side and dig back to the line of the fence. If the main clump is in the neighbouring garden, we can explain what to expect, which may help that conversation, because regrowth is far more likely while the source is left in place and the rhizomes keep creeping across.

Garden hedges are a feature of many Cwmbran streets, and bamboo often grows through or beside them. We cut the canes first, to open the area up, and then dig out the rhizomes and roots carefully so that the hedge itself is disturbed as little as we can manage. Where roots are tangled together, the digging is slower, but it is the only way to clear the bamboo.
Everything we remove goes with us, so your green waste bin is not filled and no heap is left on the lawn. Estate gardens tend to be compact, so we plan access to the back garden before we begin. Afterwards you can turf, reseed or plant up the cleared patch. We can also look again for new shoots later on if you would like.
Bamboo can find its way under paving and along drain runs, and in a compact Cwmbran garden everything sits close together. If canes are pushing up through a patio or path, point them out when we visit and we will dig along that line as well. We also cover Llantarnam, Pontnewydd, Croesyceiliog, Henllys and Pontypool for bamboo removal.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Cwmbran.

Running bamboo spreads through underground stems called rhizomes, and stopping it means digging them out thoroughly rather than just cutting down the canes.

Spreading bamboo can lift paving, push into wall joints and block drains, so it helps to know which type you have and when to act.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →We can clear it on your side, digging out the rhizomes up to the fence line. If the main clump is next door, it will probably keep sending shoots through, so the neighbour's garden would need dealing with too. We can advise what to say.
It can be, as rhizomes push against walls, paving and drain runs over time. We cannot tell the condition of your property without seeing it, but taking out the bamboo removes the pressure and lets you check the area properly.
We plan it before we start, usually bagging or loading as we dig and carrying it out via the side access or through the house if you agree. A short note of how we can reach the garden is all we need to arrange it.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
