Bamboo has a way of settling into the large, open gardens around Carmarthen and then marching toward the nearest field or hedge. We remove it by cutting the canes down and digging out the rhizomes and roots, and we take the waste away so you are left with clear ground.
Many of the gardens we visit around the Towy valley are bigger than the town average, with old hedges and mature trees. We will take a look at the clump, explain how far we think it has travelled and agree how to clear it properly.

On the edge of Carmarthen, gardens often meet farmland, and bamboo planted near the boundary can spread into a hedge bank or the field beyond. Rhizomes travel quietly below the surface, so by the time canes appear in the wrong place the underground growth has often gone much further. It is worth tackling before it becomes a dispute with the next landowner.
Old field hedges are full of roots from hawthorn, hazel and other native shrubs, and bamboo rhizomes weave through them. We dig carefully along such boundaries, removing the bamboo without ripping out more of the hedge than necessary. If the clump has become part of the hedge line, we explain what that involves. We explain before we start how much of the boundary is likely to be affected, so there are no surprises.

A clump left to its own devices for years can build up a very large root mass, and removing it is hard physical work. We cut the canes to the ground, then dig out the rhizomes and roots in stages, checking the soil as we go for fragments. In a roomy Carmarthen garden there is usually space to work properly. We bring a suitable barrow and take material out in sensible loads.
The volume of waste from a big clump can be surprising, so we take everything away. If access is along a long drive or through a gate, let us know, and we will bring suitable kit. Once cleared, you can reseed, replant or leave the ground to settle before deciding. A clear garden often makes it easier to decide what you want in that space.
Even a careful dig can leave a stray fragment of rhizome, and a few new shoots in the next growing season are not unusual. Pulling them early keeps them in check. If you would like us to look again, we will. For bamboo in Carmarthen and nearby, we also cover Llangunnor, Johnstown, Nantgaredig and Abergwili. Just ask if you are outside the town itself.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Carmarthen.
We work across South Wales. Pick your town to see how bamboo removal works locally.

Running bamboo spreads through underground stems called rhizomes, and stopping it means digging them out thoroughly rather than just cutting down the canes.

Spreading bamboo can lift paving, push into wall joints and block drains, so it helps to know which type you have and when to act.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →We can dig it out of the hedge line on your land. The work is slower because hedge roots and bamboo rhizomes are intertwined, so we go carefully. If it has crossed onto neighbouring land, that part would need the owner's agreement.
We have no set limit, but bigger clumps mean more digging and more waste, so it helps if you describe the size or send photos. We will see it in person to judge the work and tell you plainly what we think is involved.
We are not able to advise on animal health. What we can say is that bamboo spreading into a neighbour's field is a nuisance and can cause friction, so it is wise to deal with a running clump before it reaches the boundary.
