In Maesteg the terraced streets run along the Llynfi valley, with wooded slopes rising above and gardens that tilt towards or away from the house. Making a patio in that kind of plot is a matter of careful levels and tidy detail. We build new patios and paved areas for homes in the town and the villages around it.
Tell us what you hope to use the space for, and we will plan the groundwork to match. We also cover Caerau, Nantyffyllon, Pontycymmer and Llangynwyd. Just tell us what you want from the space and we will plan around it.

Sloping gardens are the norm here, so the first job is to understand the fall. We take levels from the back door outward, then talk through the choices with you: dig back into the bank for a flat area, build out and retain it, or run the paving in two levels with steps between. Each has different costs and benefits, and we explain them plainly.
A level patio at the back of a Maesteg terrace can transform the garden. It gives you somewhere for a table, a washing line or a few pots that is firm underfoot and easy to reach. We measure carefully, mark the shape out on the ground and adjust it with you until the proportions look right. Taking time over the layout now saves awkward corrections later.

The valley gets its share of rain, and water tends to run downhill through gardens. We lay every patio with a gentle fall away from the house, think about where runoff will go and keep clear of neighbouring walls. Underneath, the sub-base is compacted in layers so the slabs stay level and do not become a trap for standing water. We build that detail in from the start, rather than leaving it to chance.
Paving that suits a terraced street might be sandstone-look slabs for a warm, natural feel, or porcelain for something cleaner and easier to wash. Both cope well with damp weather. We can bring samples to your Maesteg garden, finish the joints neatly and make sure the surface grips, which matters on a wet slope. Clean edges against walls and steps complete the job.
Wooded slopes above the town mean leaf fall, shade and sometimes roots reaching into gardens. We look at what is around your plot before digging and plan the patio to cope. When the job is complete we remove all waste and spoil, so you have a clean, usable patio and no heap of rubble left to deal with. Maesteg gardens often sit below steep woodland, so we plan around that too.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Maesteg.

Porcelain offers a consistent, low-maintenance surface, while natural stone brings variation and character, and both depend on a properly built base.

The cost of a patio depends on its size, the paving you choose, the ground beneath it and how easily materials and waste can be moved.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Usually, yes. We level a platform by cutting back into the slope or building out with a retaining edge, and add steps where needed. We look at the levels on site and explain how to fit a patio into your space.
Not always, but where soil has to be held back, a retaining edge keeps the patio stable. We will tell you whether your garden needs one once we have measured the levels, and explain what it would involve before any work starts.
Look for paving with a textured, non-slip finish. Many sandstone-look and porcelain slabs offer good grip when damp. We can show you samples, and the fall we build into the patio helps rain drain away rather than sit on the surface.
