Maesteg lies in the Llynfi valley, with terraced streets, sloping gardens and wooded hillsides rising above the rooftops. Trees grow well here, and some end up too tall, too close to the house or damaged after a storm. We take down trees in Maesteg safely, felling them whole where there is room and dismantling them in sections where there is not.
If a tree in your garden is dead, leaning, diseased or simply unwanted, tell us a little about it and we will arrange a visit. Photographs help if you can send them, though we will always look in person.

On level ground a tree can be cut and left to fall into a prepared space. On a sloping Maesteg garden that is rarely wise, because the ground falls away, the tree may land awkwardly and cut timber can slide. So we usually climb, rope off each branch and lower the sections to a controlled spot, working from the top down. It also keeps the weight under control.
That method is slower than a straight fell, but it protects the terrace wall, the shed and the neighbour's plot below. We think about where the trunk sections will be stacked and how they will be carried out, because on a hillside that part is often more demanding than the cutting itself. If the neighbour below is worried, we are happy to explain the method to them as well.

Many gardens in Maesteg run up into woodland, so the line between your tree and the wood can be blurred. Before felling anything near the top of a garden, we check who owns it and whether a Tree Preservation Order or conservation area applies. Taking down a tree that is not yours, or that is protected, causes trouble that nobody wants. We would rather settle this at the start than halfway through.
If you are unsure, send us the address and a description. We also cover Caerau, Nantyffyllon, Pontycymmer and Llangynwyd, so just tell us which part you are in. A quick conversation with the council usually settles the permission question before any work is booked. We will tell you plainly what we find, and what it means for your plans for the tree and the space it leaves.
After felling we cut the timber into logs and remove the green waste from your Maesteg garden, so you are not left with piles to dispose of. The stump can be cut low or ground out by arrangement. On sloping ground a low stump left in place is sometimes the sensible choice, so ask us. Say beforehand if you would like logs left for burning.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Maesteg.

Often you can fell a garden tree freely, but protected trees and larger amounts of timber need checks first, and this guide explains who to ask.

Taking a tree down should rarely be the first choice, but sometimes it is the only responsible one, and knowing which situation you are in saves worry.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Usually yes. We dismantle it in sections and lower each piece under control. The main questions are access and where the timber can be stacked, so tell us about steps, gates and passageways when you get in touch.
Possibly not. Boundaries on wooded slopes can be unclear, so we help you check ownership before any cutting. We also check with the council about protection. We only fell trees you have the right to remove. Nothing is cut until that is clear.
Not always, but it helps to be reachable. We may need to ask a question about the stump, the logs or access. If the tree is close to a neighbour, a quick word with them beforehand is also sensible.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
