Monmouth is where the Wye meets the Monnow, a market town of period houses, large gardens, tall hedges and mature trees. The Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean are close by. Tree felling in Monmouth often means a big, old specimen near an old building, so we plan each job carefully and take it down in sections or whole.
We remove dead, diseased, leaning and storm-damaged trees, as well as shrubs and conifers that are no longer wanted. Tell us about the tree and we will arrange a visit. A few details about the tree and where it stands are enough to start with.

Period houses in and around Monmouth often have mature trees close to the walls, with roots under old paths and branches over slate roofs. A mistake here is expensive, so we do not rush. The tree is looked over for rot, hollows and weak unions, then dismantled from the top in small sections lowered on ropes. Every cut is chosen with the building in mind.
Large gardens give us some room to work, and we use it, setting aside a clear drop zone and keeping people and pets away from it. Where a tree leans over a neighbour's wall or a lane, we agree the plan with you first, so everybody knows what will happen and when the cutting will take place. We also consider access through side gates, arches and narrow paths that older Monmouth properties often have.

Parts of Monmouth fall within a conservation area, and a number of trees may be covered by a Tree Preservation Order. In both cases the council normally needs notice or must give permission before a tree is felled. We make this check for you before any work is booked, and explain in plain terms what is allowed and what the council has said.
Tall hedges and large garden trees can also be shared with neighbours, so a conversation across the fence is often wise. We work around Rockfield, Dixton, Overmonnow and Trellech too, and the same checks apply there. If you are unsure whether a tree is protected, ask us first. Please tell us about any earlier tree work or council letters you have. Ask us if unsure.
When the felling is done, we cut the timber into logs and remove the green waste from your Monmouth garden. You can have the stump cut low or ground out by arrangement, depending on what you plan for the space, whether that is planting, paving or just a clear lawn. If logs are wanted for the fire, let us know beforehand.

Often you can fell a garden tree freely, but protected trees and larger amounts of timber need checks first, and this guide explains who to ask.

Taking a tree down should rarely be the first choice, but sometimes it is the only responsible one, and knowing which situation you are in saves worry.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Often yes, but the council usually has to be told or has to agree first. We contact them on your behalf before booking, and we will not start until the position is clear. Please pass on any letters from the council you may have.
That is exactly why we dismantle in sections. Each piece is lowered on a rope rather than dropped, so roofs, walls and glass are protected. We look at the roots too, in case they affect the building. Nothing is rushed.
Yes. Tall overgrown hedges and shrubs are within what we do. Whether it is better to cut back or remove completely depends on the plants, so we look at it with you before suggesting either. Either way, the waste is cleared.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will come back to you, or call 07766 919630 if it is urgent.
