Bridgend is a mixture of older streets near the River Ogmore and newer estates spreading out towards the Vale, and the gardens vary just as much. Whatever you have, we build patios and paved areas that suit the plot, from a small paved corner by the back door to a full entertaining space with steps and borders.
We explain each stage as we go, from the first marking out to the final pointing. We also cover Pencoed, Porthcawl, Ogmore-by-Sea, Brackla and Coity, so if you are in one of those places, the same approach applies.

We begin by marking out the shape with you on the ground, so you can see exactly where the paving will go and how it sits against the house. Then we dig out the topsoil, take the area down to firm ground and remove the spoil, so the patio is built on a stable surface and not on the turf, which would settle unevenly as it rots away beneath the slabs.
Next comes the sub-base, which we lay and compact in layers before bedding the slabs on mortar. Every slab is set to a gentle fall for drainage, and the joints are then pointed and brushed. It is not glamorous work, but a thick, well-compacted base is what stops a Bridgend patio developing dips and sunken corners, and it is the stage most worth doing slowly. We stop to check levels with a spirit level before the slabs go on.

Many gardens in Bridgend already have something to work around, such as an old concrete slab, a shed base, a washing line post or a border you love. We plan around these, and where an old surface needs breaking out, we handle that as part of the job. Straight edges and clean cuts at walls and steps make the biggest visual difference.
Drainage needs thought on every plot. Before we start, we check levels so that rainwater runs away from the house and not towards it, and we look at where a neighbour's wall or fence sits so that water does not pool against it. Much of the work is below the surface, and it is far easier to build drainage in than to fix it once the slabs are down.
Sandstone-look paving, porcelain and natural stone each give a different feel, and we are happy to talk through how they look and wear. If you are in Bridgend or the villages around it, let us know roughly what size of patio you have in mind and we will arrange a visit to look at the garden and discuss the options.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Bridgend.
Patio ConstructionWe cleared the old paving at the back of a Bridgend house, compacted the base and stacked new slabs ready for laying.

Patio ConstructionWe laid new grey paving slabs in a narrow Cardiff garden, with timber-edged gravel beds and a membrane-lined side strip.

Patio ConstructionWe replaced the front lawn of a red-brick terraced house in Neath with dark grey paving and a pale border of edging stones.

Porcelain offers a consistent, low-maintenance surface, while natural stone brings variation and character, and both depend on a properly built base.

The cost of a patio depends on its size, the paving you choose, the ground beneath it and how easily materials and waste can be moved.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Sinking nearly always comes from a thin or poorly compacted base. We dig down to firm ground, build the sub-base in layers, compact each one and bed the slabs properly. A solid foundation gives a good chance of a level surface through wet and frosty weather.
Yes. We can break out and clear old concrete or tired paving as part of the job, then build the new base in its place. The waste is taken away, so you are not left with a skip to sort out yourself.
Yes, but heavy soil holds water, so drainage is important. We set the paving to a gentle fall, build a proper sub-base and look at where the water will go, which keeps puddles and damp away from the house.
