Cowbridge has a historic main street, but step off it and you find large gardens on the village edge, with farmland beyond the fence and tall boundary trees along the way. These are gardens with room for a proper patio, and we build them. New paved areas are laid for the houses in town and the country lanes around it.
Our job is to make sure the patio is level, drained and built to last, and then to leave it neat. We also cover Llanblethian, Llantwit Major, Llandough and St Hilary. Tell us what you would like and we will work out how to build it.

With plenty of space, the design questions in Cowbridge become more interesting. A patio can follow the back of the house, stretch out into the lawn or form a separate seating area at the far end of the garden. We talk through how you use the space, where the sun falls and what you can see from the kitchen window before settling on a position.
Bigger patios call for more thought about shape and surface. A long unbroken run of paving can feel flat, so we may suggest a border, a gentle curve, a step or a change in laying pattern. We mark everything out on the ground first, so you can walk through it and adjust before any digging takes place. It costs nothing to move a line of string, but a great deal to move a finished patio.

Gardens beside farmland are more open to the wind and rain, and a large patio needs a base that can cope. We take the area down to firm ground, build a sub-base in compacted layers, bed the slabs on mortar and lay them to a fall. This stops movement, keeps the surface dry and helps it age well. It is groundwork that you will never see, but you will notice if it is missed.
Boundary trees and field hedges are a lovely feature in the Cowbridge area, but they can drop leaves and put out roots. We check what is close to the planned patio, keep clear of significant roots where possible, and tell you plainly if anything needs trimming first. A hedge or fence can also add shelter for outdoor seating. Planning around these from the start avoids surprises later.
Sandstone-look paving, natural stone and porcelain all work well beside traditional stone and rendered houses, and we can bring samples to your Cowbridge garden so you can judge colour for yourself. Once the slabs are down, we point the joints, neaten the edges at walls and borders, and take the waste away, leaving you with a patio ready for use.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Cowbridge.

Porcelain offers a consistent, low-maintenance surface, while natural stone brings variation and character, and both depend on a properly built base.

The cost of a patio depends on its size, the paving you choose, the ground beneath it and how easily materials and waste can be moved.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →Size is limited only by the space you have and what you want to spend. Larger patios simply need more careful planning of levels, edging and drainage. We mark the outline on the ground so you can see it before work begins.
Yes. Steps linking the patio to a lawn or a higher level, and neat borders for planting, are a common part of the work. We plan them at the start so the levels, edges and drainage all fit together properly.
Occasionally. Roots can lift paving and leaves can make surfaces slippery. We look at what is nearby before digging and keep the base clear of important roots wherever possible. Where trimming would help, we will mention it, since we also carry out tree and hedge work.
