Newport gardens range from narrow Victorian terrace yards to wide lawns on suburban estates, and a patio has to be planned differently for each. We build new paved areas that suit the plot, with a firm base underneath and a finish you will want to sit out on.
Tell us what you want the space for, whether that is dining, a bit of sun by the back door or somewhere easy to keep clean, and we will work out the size, the shape and the paving that make sense. We do the digging, laying and clearing away ourselves.

In the older streets of Newport, space is tight, so every slab counts. We measure carefully, keep cuts to a minimum and make sure the new surface meets the house wall, drain covers and boundary edges neatly. The aim is a patio that feels bigger than the plot suggests, with room left for pots or a narrow border. Narrow yards often benefit from a lighter tone, which helps the space feel more open.
On the larger estates there is more freedom. A generous patio can be set a little away from the house, linked to it by a path, or wrapped around a corner to catch the evening sun. We mark any layout on the ground first, so you can walk it and move it before we commit to the dig. It is a good way to make a big garden feel planned rather than empty.

Whatever the size, the groundwork follows the same careful order. We excavate, remove soft or disturbed soil, then build a sub-base in compacted layers so the surface cannot sink or rock. The slabs are laid on a bed with a gentle fall so water leaves the surface and does not sit against the house. Compacting in thin layers takes a little longer, but it is the difference between a patio that stays flat and one that dips.
Newport sits low beside the River Usk, and wet ground is not unusual. That makes the base and the fall more important, not less. We keep levels consistent, check them as we go, and finish with tidy pointing along every joint and edge, so the result looks crisp and stays that way. Any surface water is then directed towards a drain or border instead of the house.
Sandstone-look slabs, porcelain and natural stone are all options, and each has a different feel. Porcelain tends to stay cleaner, while natural stone gives a more varied look. Mature street trees around Newport can drop leaves and sap, so we will talk about which surface copes with that. We also cover Caerleon, Maindee and Rogerstone. Samples can be brought to your door.
A few jobs we have completed. We also work in and around Newport.
Patio ConstructionWe cleared the old paving at the back of a Bridgend house, compacted the base and stacked new slabs ready for laying.

Porcelain offers a consistent, low-maintenance surface, while natural stone brings variation and character, and both depend on a properly built base.

The cost of a patio depends on its size, the paving you choose, the ground beneath it and how easily materials and waste can be moved.

Tree surgery is priced job by job rather than from a fixed list, so this guide explains what moves the cost up or down and how to get a firm figure.
Read the guide →That depends on the plot and what else you want to keep. We usually suggest leaving room for a bed or some planters at the edges, but a fully paved yard is perfectly possible. We mark the outline first so you can judge it for yourself.
Yes. Excavated soil, old paving and offcuts are all removed as part of the job. We keep the working area as tidy as we can while the work is under way and leave the garden clean at the end, with nothing for you to deal with.
Yes. We can level the ground by cutting into the slope, sometimes with a small step or edge to hold the soil back. The surface still needs a slight fall for drainage, which we build into the design from the very start.
