Swansea gardens deal with wind and sea air, and the trees in them often grow with a thick, low canopy as a result. When those lower branches start to press on a roof, a window or the path to the door, we raise the crown and take only what is necessary.
Cuts go back to the branch collar and the outline stays natural. If a lighter lift will do, we say so, because a wind-exposed tree can easily be thrown out of balance by taking too much from underneath.

Coastal wind shapes trees as they grow, often pushing the crown one way and leaving the lower branches long and heavy on the sheltered side. In a Swansea garden near the bay or in the hillside suburbs, those branches can scrape roofs and fences in every gale and brush against windows. Lifting the crown clears them and lets light and air in under the canopy.
Lifting has to be judged carefully, though. Take too much from a tree that depends on its lower foliage for balance and it may catch the wind badly. We keep the lift measured, favour even cuts around the canopy and leave enough growth to protect the trunk. We aim for a result that looks natural and still stands up to the weather.

Swansea has plenty of big garden trees in its suburbs, and mature specimens often have wide, low limbs reaching over lawns, drives and parked cars. Lifting them opens up the garden and makes mowing, parking and walking underneath much easier. We take extra care with trees close to buildings or cables, and we work out where each branch will land before it is cut.
On the hillsides, access is the challenge. Steep drives and narrow roads limit where we can stand and where branches can go. We plan each job with that in mind, cutting limbs in sections, lowering them under control and clearing the road promptly so neighbours are not held up. Wide, old trees can seem alarming but are often straightforward to lift once the plan is clear.
Before cutting, we ask the council whether your tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, and we explain what consent is needed if it does. We also look for nesting birds and check what the tree overhangs. We cover Sketty, Mumbles, Morriston, Clydach and Gowerton for crown lifting too, so tell us where the tree stands and what it is touching.

Crown lifting raises the canopy by removing low branches, while crown reduction makes the whole tree smaller, so choosing the right one depends on your problem.

There is no single perfect month for every tree, but winter suits many species, and this guide shows how timing, nesting birds and weather affect the choice.
Read the guide →Not if it is done lightly and evenly. A tree needs enough low foliage to stay balanced, so we avoid heavy removal. We will advise you on a sensible lift, especially for trees in exposed or coastal spots.
Yes. We plan where the vehicle and the cut branches go, work from safe positions and lower limbs under control. Steep roads are part of everyday work in hillside parts of Swansea, and we keep the road clear while cutting.
Salt-laden wind can stress a tree, so we avoid unnecessary cutting and keep the lift modest. Clean cuts at the branch collar help the tree recover. We will tell you if a particular tree looks vulnerable before we start.
