Salt on the wind, damp sea air and a lot of shade between houses all leave surfaces looking tired. We power wash patios, driveways, block paving, decking, paths and walls in Barry, lifting algae, moss and ingrained dirt so that your outdoor spaces look clean again and offer better grip underfoot after rain.
Gardens near the coast have their own challenges, from sand tracked in to the green growth that thrives in the damp. We also cover Penarth, Rhoose, Dinas Powys and Sully. Before we begin we check the surface, protect plants and doors, and set the pressure to suit the material.

Barry is right on the coast, and the salt-laden wind that blows in over the Island and the old docks settles on every hard surface. Combined with regular damp, it encourages algae on paving and a dull film on decking and walls. Left alone, that film holds moisture, which means it stays slippery for longer. A wet winter makes the problem worse.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces tend to have small yards with shaded corners, while the twentieth century estates have wider drives and front paving. Different surfaces, from old brick to pressed concrete and block paving, respond differently to cleaning, so we adjust our equipment and technique to suit each property rather than doing everything the same way. Each garden gets its own plan.

We begin by sweeping loose debris and checking for weak pointing, cracked slabs or loose blocks. On large areas such as a Barry driveway we use a rotary surface cleaner for an even finish, and a lance for steps, edges and walls. Weeds in the joints are removed, and algae is lifted section by section. Large areas are done in overlapping passes.
Plants, doors, letterboxes and vents are protected, and we aim runoff away from doors and open drains. Salt and dirt rinse away together. Softer stone and older paving receive a gentler approach. If a surface is too damaged to wash without making it worse, we say so and explain the alternatives to you. Nothing is hurried. You see the difference before we pack up.
After washing, block paving in Barry may benefit from fresh sand in the joints, which helps hold the blocks in place and discourages weeds. Some customers also choose a sealer to make the surface easier to keep clean. We can do either once the paving has dried, and we explain how they work so you can decide whether you want them.

Most South Wales patios need a proper clean about once a year, though shade, damp and nearby trees can mean more often or a little less.

There is no single perfect month for every tree, but winter suits many species, and this guide shows how timing, nesting birds and weather affect the choice.
Read the guide →Salt and constant damp do not help. They keep surfaces wet and give algae and moss a good start, particularly in shaded corners. Regular brushing and an occasional wash keep paving looking cleaner and safer than leaving it for several winters.
Yes, using lower pressure and keeping the lance moving along the grain. Decking is softer than stone and can be marked or roughened by too much force. We check its condition first and will advise if boards are too weathered to treat safely.
Washing can lift lighter oil marks, but older stains that have soaked in may only fade. We cannot promise a complete result. We will tell you what we see before starting, so you know what to expect from the clean.
