This Penarth project combines two jobs. In one garden, tall shrubs and small trees were cut back with a long-reach tool, and in another we cleared a roadside plot beside palms and trimmed the hedge above a low stone wall. The photos show the work at several stages.

The first two photos show a back garden crowded with elder, buddleia and other soft growth around a blue pole. One of us works with a long-reach saw, and the second photo shows the same area with the top growth thinned. Overgrown shrubs like these are taken back in stages so the plants are left with a shape and room to grow. Most of this work is thinning crossing branches and taking off the tallest stems rather than cutting everything level.
The next two photos show a roadside plot with palms behind, where a heap of cut branches fills the space behind a brick gatepost. A person with a rake and petrol cans stands on the pavement, so the clearing up is under way. The last photo shows the hedge above a stone wall afterwards, with the verge and pavement clear. Roadside work needs the pavement kept passable and cut material loaded straight away.
