This photo from Ogmore-by-Sea shows the start of fencing work in a garden with a raised swimming pool. New timber posts are stacked on the left and a fresh panel stands against the pool wall, while the old grey fence still runs along the back. It is a snapshot of materials and tools before the fence goes up.

The pool sits on a raised paved terrace with its cover rolled out across the water. Stacked lengths of square timber post lie on the paving at the left, with tools and a watering can on the pool surround. A light slatted panel stands against the wall behind the pool, and a trellis section is visible further along. The weathered old fence at the back is still up, so this looks like the beginning of the job. Houses on the slope behind give the garden an open outlook.
A garden near the coast is exposed to wind, so posts need to be set deep and firmly, and the fence should be built to cope with gusts. Where a pool is involved, keeping the terrace clear and the cover and surround protected matters as much as the fence itself. Treated timber posts, panels and gravel boards are normally cut and fitted in a set order, with the old panels removed and taken away at the end. Boundary lines and fence heights are worth agreeing with neighbours and checking with the council first.
