These three photos from Newport show a selection of clearance work rather than one story. Two of them are the same terraced front garden, before and after, and the third shows a separate area that was thick with brambles and ivy. In each case, the job was to cut growth back and get the waste out of the way.

Before, the small front plot was crowded with weeds, long grass and straggly shrubs, with a bright yellow-green shrub spilling over on the right and bags already waiting on the path. Afterwards the ground has been cleared and raked over, and the waste has been piled in orange bags in the middle. The hedges, the low front wall and the neatly rounded shrubs along the boundary were kept. A bin, a sprayer and a rake sit near the edge, so this is a tidy stopping point rather than a final planting.
The third photo shows a very different space. Bramble stems, ivy and rose growth cover both sides of a narrow route, and a few wheelie bins stand in the middle with cans and packaging in them. Overgrown plots like this are cut back in stages, working from the top down so the stems can be seen and handled safely. Brambles are thorny, so they are bagged or bundled as they come down, and the roots are dealt with afterwards if the ground is going to be reused.
