A tree pruning job in a Cardiff garden, carried out from a ladder with overhead cables running close by. The three photos below show the ladder at work, the tree afterwards and the wood chipper parked at the kerb.

In the first photo one of us is up the ladder at the crown of the tree while a colleague stays at the foot of it. Cutting from a ladder lets us reach the branches that need to come out without climbing into the tree, and keeps the work to the parts of the crown that need attention.
Overhead cables cross the sky in the first two photos, so each cut is planned with the line in mind: where the branch will fall and how it is going to be lowered clear. If branches are touching or very close to power lines, do not try to deal with them yourself. Contact your electricity network operator, because that work is not for a garden contractor.
The second photo shows the tree once the pruning was done: the crown cut back to a lighter, more open frame, with the cut branches on the lawn ready to be cleared. In the last photo the chipper is set up beside the road at the front of the house, which keeps the garden clear of piles of branches and means there is less to carry away.
